A clean office helps to keep your employees productive and safer from contagious diseases.
The amount of bacteria generally found on office desks is alarming, not to mention high touch point areas, such as kitchens, restrooms and elevators.
A regular and thorough office cleaning using adequate EPA approved sanitizers and disinfectant cleaning products will kill bacteria on all surfaces and make for a healthier environment for employees that spend much of their day in the office.
A drastic reduction in the amount of bacteria and viruses present in the workplace will also reduce the amount of spread that occurs from things as simple as keyboards, office supplies and equipment.
Knowing what to clean and when to clean can drastically improve the sterility of your office. Not to worry, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide outlining what to clean and how often, to help you figure out what office cleaning routine works best for you.
Floors
Carpets should be vacuumed at least once per week. Hardwood and tile should be swept and mopped two times per week. For higher traffic areas such as the kitchen and restrooms, these should be mopped 3 times per week using a disinfectant cleaner.
High-Touch Surfaces
Clean surfaces that get high use at least once a day or as often as determined as necessary. Examples of high-touch surfaces include counters, desktops, doorknobs, pens, light switches, handles, stair rails, elevator buttons, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
Furniture
Non upholstered furniture should be wiped down and cleaned at least once per week. Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed once per week and sprayed with disinfectant. Any throw pillows or covers should be washed every two weeks to keep common areas clean for employees and guests.
Sinks and Counters
These surfaces should be disinfected daily and up to multiple times per day if needed. Sinks are considered a breeding ground for bacteria and the restrooms should be closed off for cleaning and aired out during and after each clean. Counters should also be cleaned daily and be treated the same as sinks.
Dusting
High dusting such as cleaning of ceiling fans and lights should be done from one time up to two times per month. It is best to dust at the end of the workday when employees are gone for the day as dust can be an irritant to the eyes and throat. Vacuuming after dusting is also recommended to capture any dust that falls on the ground.
With some time and attention you can develop an effective plan, determine what needs to be cleaned and implement a strategy that will keep your team safe and happy.
